摘要：This paper investigates how power impacts a researcher`s productivity in Chinese universities. Combining the publication records in several Chinese journal databases and the hand-collected data from individuals` curricula vitae, we create a panel data set to compare the productivity of researchers before and after they are promoted to be a dean in the school of economics or finance. Using an event study, we find that productivity increases significantly once a person is promoted to become a dean. The channel of the improvement of productivity is the increase of the co-authored works. We believe that power attracts coauthors because it means stronger social networks, more resources and higher publication probability rather than the higher research capacity of deans.


演讲者简介：聂辉华，中国人民大学经济学博士，美国哈佛大学经济学系博士后。现为中国人民大学经济学院教授、博士生导师，中国人民大学国家发展与战略研究院副院长。他主要研究组织经济学，在 Review of Economics & Statistics、Journal of Comparative Economics、Economics Letters、Review of Development Economics、《中国社会科学》、《经济研究》、《经济学》（季刊）、《管理世界》和《世界经济》等国内外知名刊物上已经或即将发表几十篇论文。他于2008年获得“全国百篇优秀博士学位论文”奖，2011年入选教育部“新世纪优秀人才支持计划”，2013年入选中组部首批“青年拔尖人才计划”（国家“万人计划”），2014年入选“北京市优秀青年人才”。他撰写的内参多次获得党和国家领导人的批示。
